Background
The Tier 3 meeting of GLN is an opportunity to enhance learning within the group and to discuss key findings/ issues. The focus of this meeting will be discussing metrics to measure corporate citizenship performance and continuing to refine thinking related to building shared solutions to common issues.
Why measurement?
The Economist’s recent special section devoted to corporate responsibility underlined the fact that companies are no longer asking themselves why corporate responsibility is important. Indeed, the conversation has moved to the how – how can and should companies implement a strategic, coherent corporate responsibility strategy, one which adds value to the business while maximizing positive impacts on society? Measurement is a large component of the how. Yet, in order to answer the how, we have to begin with the what. Varying definitions of corporate responsibility abound. Indeed, as discussed at the GLN’s last Tier 3 meeting in November 2007, these loose definitions are not helping matters. Instead, they are muddying the waters, hampering the good efforts of companies to effect strategic social change and are beginning to tarnish the image of corporate responsibility. They are also making it difficult for companies to measure corporate responsibility performance.
This session will focus on the what and the how of corporate responsibility measurement for leadership companies. The conversation will coalesce around the following:

Great individual strides have been made in certain areas and positive impacts have been created. But questions persist related to missed opportunities. A so-called shared responsibility gap is becoming increasingly apparent. This session will focus on discussing collaborative models to unearth shared solutions. The conversation will coalesce around the following:
